Ja:göh Carson Waterman

We joined Carson Waterman last month for his museum docent training at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo. “Carson Waterman: Art Saved My Life” is an exploration of Carson’s career in art, beginning with his time as an illustrator during the Vietnam War. Among the pieces displayed in the exhibition is Carson’s mammoth “Clan Mother” series, on loan from the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum. Completed in 1992, the works depict the eight Longhouse Clan Mothers of the time: Pauline Jimerson, Snipe; Thelma Crouse, Heron; Myrtle Peterson, Hawk; Delora Jimerson, Deer; Marcella Bowen, Beaver; Hazel Jimerson, Wolf; Hazel Thompson, Bear; Lorenza Dowdy, Turtle.
