The Christian calendar now begins the season of Lent. This is a time of events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. He was crucified because the religious leaders of his time saw him as a threat to their power over people. He was a man of courage and love. Lent represents the 40 days that Jesus fasted before he was betrayed by one of his disciples. Many think that Lent means giving up something – sweets, certain foods, etc. – but Lent is also a time for making changes in your life. Instead of giving up something why not start something new? Volunteering, helping a shut in or elder, visiting someone in a nursing home or hospital, etc. This is a time to take care of others – and yourself.
At Four Corners we will be observing Lent through various activities. On March 1, from 10 a.m. to noon we will be joining our friends at the Hamburg United Methodist church for a ReLENTless Grace Activity. Following the activity time we will enjoy a potluck lunch. Everyone is invited to join us.
On Tuesday, March 4, from 6-8 p.m., Four Corners will be hosting a Fat Tuesday gathering. This is the day before Lent begins. Join us for donuts and other sweet treats. Everyone is invited to join us. Lent begins on Wednesday, March 4 and ends on April 17.
Other Easter services will be announced in the next issue of the newsletter.
Everyone is welcome to join us for Sunday services at 9 a.m., followed by coffee time in our fellowship hall. You will hear good words and music to carry you through the week. Peace be with you.
