Seneca Immersion Program at the Indigenous Language Institute Conference at the Minneapolis American Indian Center in Minnesota.

This was a three-day workshop to teach how to develop language teaching guides (curriculum) with the Big Purpose as the goal. Participants learned to design language activities (lesson plans) that help develop speaking abilities, founded on one’s cultural values and worldview.

Joä’nö’, Aryien – is the Adult Language Facilitator, and De’göwöyas, Megan – is the Curriculum Organizer.

The workshop overview: We will address WHY – the Big Purpose – we want our learners to learn our heritage language. This guides the process of developing curriculum, units and lessons that will help reach the Big Purpose.

At the end of the three-day workshop, participants will demonstrate to their peers a mini-lesson they created. They will learn how to provide constructive feedback as part of the process. Participants were required to develop and share mini-lessons that apply learned theories.

Ja:göh ladies for your dedication to the Seneca Language!
