The Seneca Nation has begun updating the 2018 Tribal Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan focuses on impacts by natural disasters to existing buildings, infrastructure, and critical facilities that might be damaged or destroyed. Ultimately, the mitigation projects will reduce vulnerability and enable our communities to become more resilient to disasters by the risks identified and strategies implemented.

The plan update will require a risk assessment to be conducted to identify current hazards that impact the Seneca Nation territories. By profiling the relevant hazards and potential consequences, and identifying Nation assets subject to losses or damage that could result from each type of hazard. The risk assessment will enable the Seneca Nation to develop a hazard mitigation strategy. The strategy will include the identification of hazard mitigation goals as well as a prioritized list of actions designed to reduce losses.
Please consider joining the Seneca Nation in the kick-off of this planning process at the upcoming Hazard Mitigation Working Group Kick-off Meeting:
Wednesday, May 28 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

The Seneca Nation is asking its members and residents to contribute to the planning process by taking a survey. This survey is designed to gather information from the Nation community to help us better coordinate planning activities to reduce the risk of injury or property damage. These questions are for information-gathering only and responses shared with Nation and outside entities for planning purposes only.
To access the public survey, please visit https://forms.office.com/r/ceE0CE2tSu.
The plan update will allow the Seneca Nation territories to continue to be eligible for future disaster assistance and pre-disaster mitigation funding from FEMA. Example of grant-eligible projects include rebuilding homes with flood resistant materials with the first floor above the FEMA base flood elevation and following local flood control measures.
