Ja:göh Lylla Schindler, Onöndowa’ga, Gota:yö:nih, who was recently elected President of Indigenous Students at Syracuse University, a leadership role in which she organizes and leads orientation for new indigenous students, plans and coordinates community-centered events, and collaborates with the other multi-cultural groups on campus.
Lylla additionally, was recently appointed as the Director of Indigenous Student Affairs in the Student Association, which operates within the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. In this position, she officially represents the interests of Indigenous students.
Lylla is currently a sophomore at Syracuse University, she is majoring in Policy Studies with a minor in Native American Studies. Beyond her elected roles, Lylla is also a mentor in the Ionkerihonnien:ni Guide Program. This is a cultural rooted initiative designed to support incoming Native students. As a guide, Lylla helps her mentees navigate the academic, cultural, and social aspects of university life, this ensures all students feel seen and supported.
Lylla is also involved in the Pre-Law society where she participates in professional development opportunities and networking with peers who share a passion for legal careers. When Lylla is not in class or leading student initiatives, she enjoys playing intramural volleyball, a fun and social program that has helped her build stronger connections with peers and strengthen her teamwork skills. Lylla is also known for her photographs from community events and of her peers.
She is the daughter of Chrissy Schindler and Brent Powless.
