Kaycee Colburn Receives Power the Future Award

In recognition of her visionary leadership in cultural advocacy and inclusive community engagement

July 15, 2025 | Repost from YWCA Jamestown FB

A proud Seneca woman, Kaycee organized and led the 2023 Seneca Flag Raising Ceremony—an inspiring event that brought together local leaders, residents, and visitors to honor Indigenous heritage. She crafted the land acknowledgment, coordinated the singers and dancers, invited Seneca Nation representatives, and created the beadwork oak leaf that was presented by former Mayor Eddie Sunquist during the ceremonial gift exchange.

In her role as Artist in Residence at Jamestown Community College, Kaycee builds bridges between generations through education and art, increasing awareness of Indigenous history, identity, and contributions. Her work extends into media as well, with appearances on TV and cross-cultural podcasts where she promotes justice, identity, and inclusion.

Known for her authenticity, artistry, and unwavering commitment to human dignity, Kaycee advocates for human dignity and equity across social, political, and economic spaces. Her efforts to create meaningful, inclusive change truly embody the spirit of the Power the Future Award.

Thank you Kaycee! Ja:göh!
