We hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer.

We would like to give a big Nya:wëh to the SNI DPW/Cattaraugus for maintaining the United Missions Cemetery. The grass is cut and trees have been cut down for safety which we truly appreciate as do many families who have loved ones buried there.

At our July meeting, Rosy Simas gave a presentation regarding Elizabeth Winnie Waterman. Her presentation consisted of a PowerPoint with many pictures. Rosy is an avid researcher and it shows.

Our August meeting presentation was by Teresa VanAernam using Jack Ericson’s research on Tall Peters sister and her descendants. They appear to be Cornplanter descendants based upon research. We will have a continuation of this research in the future.

Our website (www.iroquoisgenealogysociety.org) is a wealth of information. You can find census records (eg. Buffalo Creek), annuity census rolls for Iroquois Nations residing in NYS (1851-1886, 1890 and 1902). School records can be found on our website such as Thomas Indian School, Carlisle Indian School, Hampton Normal Institute and Tunesassa (Quaker School). Other items on the website are church records, Kansas Claims, vital records, pictures of various families as well as some of the family tree presentations. Please check it out, you will most likely find out information about your family.

September brings the Fall Festival and it’s 50 Year Anniversary! We will have an information table at the festival and celebrate 50 years our own way.

So, please come to a meeting! We would love to see you plus we always have good eats! Last but not least, bring any questions you may have about your family. Someone may have an answer at our meeting or we have researchers who could point you in a particular direction.

Our next meeting: September 11, 2025 at 6pm at the Cattaraugus Community Center, Cattaraugus Territory, 12767 Route 438, Irving, NY. Topic: Seneca Indian Bands, Presenter: Leatha Jimerson using Jack Ericson research.

Our October meeting will be held at the Allegany Community Center at 6pm. The presentation: John White, AKA ‘White Boy’ presented by Marilyn Anderson.

Please bring a dish to pass. Plates/Utensils provided and water. Hope to see you at our next meeting and bring a friend!
