Corn, or Onëö’

Stay Tuned For Upcoming Husking Bees!

Corn, or onëö’, is a staple in traditional Hodinöhsö:ni’ diets, and other tribes and nations across Turtle Island. After the corn harvest, it is tradition to braid the corn husks for storage during the colder months.

The braids are hung and the dried kernels can be milled or pounded into flour and boiled for soups, among other dishes. “Husking Bees” are held, where the community can help braid the corn and share the workload. Be on the lookout for husking and braiding bees this fall!
