(Western New York Indigenous Education Advocacy Network)
Repost from the Salamanca CSD Native Programming & Services
Is a collaborative network of local Nations/Territories and surrounding school districts in the Western New York region that serve Indigenous students
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, educators and support staff from seven districts came together to sponsor a student youth summit at the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Territory. The goal was to create an event that offered a conference-like experience while also providing students the space to connect and interact naturally as young people.
The summit utilized multiple venues, including the Cattaraugus Community Center, ECLC/Education Department, Sully Heritage Center, and the CIRVFD Firehall, offering a full day of engaging educational sessions, a career fair, and language and cultural activities. Students also enjoyed a “Chefs” luncheon featuring inspirational keynote speaker Dr. Darryl Tonemah, and the day concluded with a traditional social dance led by Aaron Miller. Attendees experienced traditional songs and dances and had the chance to win from over 60 raffle items generously donated by participating districts and Nations/Territories.
Nya:wëh to all! A special thanks to the student who closed the day by delivering the Thanksgiving Address in Tuscarora. Our aim was for students to learn, engage, network, and enjoy a truly memorable day.
