The Salamanca NACT recently treated our students to homemade frybread the week before midwinter break, making it a special and meaningful experience for all. This event was especially heartfelt because it is Ms. Cooke’s last year, and she wanted to give back to the students in a memorable way.
Along with enjoying this delicious treat, students also learned an important cultural lesson: frybread is not a traditional Indigenous food, but one that came from government commodity rations. While we may enjoy it now and then, it serves as a reminder of the resilience, strength, and perseverance of our Indigenous ancestors who made the best of what they were given.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience both educational and special for our students.
