Learning History from the Ground Up!

Repost from Lake Shore Central School District | May 29, 2026

Students in Mr. Dickey’s World Languages, Culture and Music class at Lake Shore Senior High School spent their afternoon connecting directly with local heritage. The class welcomed Levi Thomas from Gakwi:yo:h Farms for an authentic, interactive lesson on traditional Seneca growing methods, sustainable agricultural practices, and the vital community role of food sovereignty. To bring the lesson full circle, every student rolled up their sleeves and planted their own beans or squash to take home and cultivate in their family gardens.

We love seeing our high schoolers experience these genuine, hands-on connections to our regional roots while building practical skills for tomorrow.
