The Rez Pet Program was created with one goal in mind: helping pets and the people who love them. We know our community cares deeply about their animals, and we want to make it easier for families to access resources, education, and support close to home.
What have we been up to?
We hit the ground running with our very first two-day community workshop, where community members came together to learn, share ideas, and help shape the future of the program. Since then, we’ve been out and about at community events, elder gatherings, and family events, handing out pet treats, pet care goodies, and educational materials.
One of our biggest highlights was coordinating a two-day dog food giveaway using donated pet food with 557 bags distributed in Cattaraugus, 489 bags distributed in Allegany and 100 bags through the Buffalo Creek Office.
We’re also excited to be building strong partnerships with the Erie County SPCA ( our Veterinary Service Officer) and the Seneca Nation Conservation Department as we continue growing the program.

- Pet Owner Education Classes- learn about the different diseases that affect our animals like heartworm, leptospirosis, mange, and other important pet heath topics)
- Flea and Tick Distribution Days
- Community Outreach Events and Volunteer Opportunites
What we CAN do
- Share pet education and helpful resources
- Host workshops and community events
- Distribute donated pet supplies when available
- Connect pet owners with available services and community partners
- Listen to community needs and build the program around them
What we CAN’T do (yet)
We’re still a growing program, so here are a few things we’re not able to provide right now:
- Emergency veterinary care
- Stray animal pickup or animal control services
- Ongoing medical treatment for pets
- Guaranteed pet food or supplies on demand
The good news? We’re planning ahead and always looking for new ways to make Rez Pet Program a lasting part of our community. Can’t wait to see you at our next event!
