My name is Kara Skipper, and I am apart of the Seneca Nation of Indians, enrolled in the deer clan. This January 25th will mark the 5th anniversary of the death of my grandma, Karen Ellis. I had just turned 14 in the December before my grandmother passed away in January. I have always thought about how being the last grandchild effected my time I was able to spend with her, 14 years was not enough. I am now 18 years old and a senior in high school at Iroquois, applying to colleges and looking forward to my future. Even though my grandma is not here with us anymore she still has been with me through the process. She is the reason for my Native American heritage, passing it down to my Mom and I. I have been able to share my heritage with these colleges and expand their knowledge of the Seneca Nation. I miss her very much and i know she is looking down upon me giving me the best of luck when it comes to my future.
