Local Girls Shine at Intersectional Wrestling Event

Mayville – Mia Smith headlined a host of Chautauqua Lake wrestlers who turned in fine efforts at the fourth Intersectional Girls Wrestling Championships on Saturday, February 18th at Chautauqua Lake Central School.

Competing in the 132-pound weight class, Smith (26-6) placed first by pinning Ke’ya Stevens of Gowanda in 5:39. Stevens’ record is now 12-3.

Others earning second-place finishes besides Stevens were Thunderbirds Lily Snyder (114), Sofia Gervasio (138), Lilian Hyde (145) and Christina Dickey (165). Teammates Jalyn Linton (138) and Gabrielle Freeburg (185/235) placed third; and Alex Silano (120), Gabriela Testa (126), Leanne Lisciandro (138) and Caroline Apthorpe (145) finished fourth.

Other area wrestlers who placed in the top four were Brooklyn Pryll of Falconer (second at 107); Kiernan Quinn of Gowanda (third at 145); and Jovanna Brielo of Fredonia (fourth at 165).
