On Friday, June 23, 2023, friends, family, and colleagues gathered to wish a happy retirement to Pauline “Snap” John.
Across her many positions held and elected, Snap has given 45 years of dedication and service to the Seneca Nation and the Seneca people. Snap served a combined 12 years as a Councillor, and was elected to serve as Clerk, Deputy Clerk, served as Poormaster from 2020-2022, and is now retiring from her position as Deputy Director of Seneca Nation Area Office of the Aging (AOA). She began her career with the Nation in 1972 as a bookkeeper. Nya:wëh for your many years of commitment to the Nation and its people.
Beth Lay started off with a warming introduction before lunch was served along with a slideshow. President Armstrong described Pauline as a person who spent their time serving their community and elders with commitment, compassion and understanding. He said, “Pauline is a true servant and advocate for our people and while her time may be done here, her impact will be felt for years and generations to come.”
Tina Abrams presented a plaque to Snap that included a long list of her many job titles from 1972-2023 and a beautiful blanket with her clan.
“All the years I’ve worked for the Nation, I’ve done my best with our people in mind because that’s the most important thing,” shared Pauline.
Thank you to Pauline’s family, friends, and colleagues for making it. Nya:wëh Pauline for the immeasurable work you’ve provided for your community! Enjoy your retirement with family and friends!
A special Nya:wëh to the Human Resources Department, President’s Office, Council, Seneca Nation Newsletter, and the AOA staff for putting together a memorable send-off.
