Iroquois Post 1587 American Legion:

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Lawrence Isaac

On Sunday August 13th at Nyä:wëh Village, Lawrence Isaac Vietnam Era Veteran, was honored during the VETERANS DAY event at the Erie County Fair.

It was a joyous prideful day of recognition that he fully was deserving of, the highest award of being presented the Eagle Feather during a traditional sacred ceremony. He was accompanied by traditional dancers, our post, his family, other Veterans and a large community in attendance.

LAWRENCE (Larry) ISAAC is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and of the Wolf Clan. Larry grew up on the Cattaraugus Territory and Graduated from Gowanda Central High School. Shortly after graduating from High School Larry and his close friend Norman Jimerson decided to join the U.S. Air Force together on November 02, 1972.

They reported to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Buffalo, NY and sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for Basic Training. After basic training Larry and friend Norm would be separated and Larry transferred to Rantoul’s Chanute Air Force Base where he earned a Military occupation as a Specialized Aircraft and Engine Mechanic. Larry received orders to Plattsburgh Air Force Base in up-state New York in support of worldwide protection assignments.

Larry’s assignment allowed him to perform critical duties and responsibilities involving aircraft maintenance for the next four years to ensure the safety of all citizens on the continental United States. After completing his military obligation on November 02, 1976, Larry returned to the Cattaraugus Territory.

Larry has been a dedicated member of Iroquois Post 1587 American Legion for many, many years, and we are grateful for his service to the post and community. The Seneca Nation of Indians and Iroquois Post 1587 American Legion would like to thank Sergeant Lawrence Isaac for his dedicated service to our Nation and for his bold and fearless decision to serve during time of War exemplifies him as an admired Warrior and Hero.

Larry achieved the rank of Sergeant, and his decorations and awards include:
• Air Force Good Conduct Medal
• Air Force Excellence Award

We are very proud of Larry’s many accomplishments, especially his service to our country as an Air Force Veteran. After conducting many readiness maintenance missions to protect turtle island, Larry has performed above and beyond to ensure our nation’s safety during a very critical time in our history, we thank him from the bottom of our hearts for his service.
