Hodinöhsö:ni’ Pottery Gathering

Reviving Traditional Pottery

A 3-day Hodinöhsö:ni’ Pottery Gathering was held at the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum August 30th-September 2nd.

The first 2-days were spent at the Stanley “Sully” Huff Cultural Center (located on the Seneca-Cattaraugus Territory), where Hodinöhsö:ni’ potters worked to create pots for cooking, with the artists sharing their different methods for building their pots.

Day 3 was spent at the Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center (located on the Seneca-Allegany Territory), where the group then fired their pots, and then used their vessels to cook a meal.

The gathering was spearheaded by renowned artist Peter B. Jones along with support from the @Smithsonian NMAI . A film crew from NMAI was on hand to document the gathering.
