Recently, Marty Jimerson, Jr. (Seneca, Beaver Clan, Cattaraugus Territory) worked on a little cultural project with his After School Students. They created a Smoke Dance DVD. Marty said “I found it very rare that I had a class of students that sang & danced.
The project was for them as they created a cultural video for themselves. This was also fun to make with them. Some will ask, what is a Smoke Dance ? It’s a very competitive & energetic style dance. Songs are short. Dancers have to be creative with there style of dancing and what it comes down to it is a contest between the dancer, the singer’s song, & the beat of the drum. The dancers have to stop right on the last beat of the drum.”
