Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski said “Over the summer, I met with my friend Samantha Nephew (Seneca) to discuss her vision to enhance representation for the Native American community in the City of Buffalo and Western New York.
Today marked a significant milestone as we continue to take steps towards greater visibility! I am incredibly proud to have a small role to help collaborate with Samantha for the first-ever Native American Heritage Month Flag Raising ceremony. I will always work hard to ensure people of all backgrounds, races, genders, ethnicities feel welcomed and represented in the City of Buffalo and across our WNY community. Incredible job, Sam!”
PS19 Native American Magnet School shared “We had the privilege of witnessing the Haudenosaunee flag-raising ceremony at Niagara Square, right in front of City Hall, to commemorate Native American Heritage Month. It was a powerful and inspiring experience that allowed us to embrace the rich culture and history of our Native American communities.”
