The city of Salamanca Youth Bureau, Salamanca Police Department, Seneca Nation Marshals and Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office have once again teamed up for their annual Shop with a Cop event.
On Friday morning, eight students and nine officers browsed the aisles of Walmart in Allegany for gifts for the children’s family members, said Markie Phillips, Youth Bureau Director.
After shopping, they returned to the Salamanca Youth Center and wrapped presents together in the gym at the youth center and enjoyed some pizza for lunch, Phillips said.
Sponsors from around the area donate to the cause every holiday season, giving local police the opportunity to introduce themselves and be a positive influence on youth from a young age. This year, each student was able to spend $100 on gifts for their family members.
