Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Awareness

Repost from Seneca Nation Crime Victims Services FB

On May 6th, The Seneca Nation Crime Victim Services in collaboration with Family Support Services held an MMIP Awareness event at the Cattaraugus Community Center to honor our relatives and remember those lost to the crisis of Missing or Murdered Indigenous People. Everyone was asked to wear red to show support. A community dinner was provided and MMIP t-shirts were given to attendees to help continue to create awareness.

Community resources were on hand to provide information and offer support to those in need. The dance group, Hoops of Hope and Resilience performed and offered words of encouragement and healing. They spoke of the important roles of our men and women for our families and the community. Women and girls wore ribbon skirts made from across the Haudenosaunee Nations as part of the MMIW Ribbon Skirt exchange.

We sang and we danced in honor of all of our relatives. A candlelight vigil and a moment of silence ended the evening of remembrance.
