Repost from CIRVFD Fire/Rescue
On Thursday, Seneca Fire and Seneca EMS conducted a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill on the Cattaraugus Territory.
Departments under Helmuth Chief’s Council and EMS agencies from across Cattaraugus, Erie, and Chautauqua County participated in this training. This exercise aimed to enhance our understanding of MCI operations and improve inter-agency coordination, which are crucial for achieving the best possible outcomes for patients during real emergencies.
The training involved over thirty patients involved in a three-vehicle collision. The primary focus for first responders was to practice responding to Mass Casualty Incidents, motor vehicle accidents, fire suppression, fire police, large-scale incident drills, realistic simulations, triage, resource allocation, multi-agency coordination, and learning and improvement. Additionally, Moulage training was conducted to prepare responders for handling medical emergencies.
1st Asst. Chief Redeye stated, “Training for rare and unpredictable scenarios helps us stay prepared for the unexpected and ensures we can respond efficiently and effectively when it matters most. We are proud to lead this effort and grateful for all the agencies that joined us. Strong partnerships and realistic training are essential for keeping our community safe and ensuring our responders are mission-ready.”
Special thanks to Chief 9: D. Carry Moccasin, Chief 9-1: P. Redeye, EMS Chief 9: M. Redeye, and Medical Director: Dr. J. Bart for organizing this drill and all of their command staff. Additionally, we would like to acknowledge the Erie County Sheriff’s accident investigation unit for their response and participation, along with Mercy Flight.
