Six Nation Agricultural Society – Ohi:yo’ Update

The Ohi:yo’ group has been meeting on the first Friday at of each month at 12pm at the Seneca – Iroquois National Museum in preparation for the New York State Fair Indian Village from August 20th – September 1st. Each territory is responsible for filling the vendor hut, the Women’s Work House, The Six Nations building, and hiring a traditional dancer. The New York State Fair Indian Village is a chance to represent agriculture, art and crafts, dance styles, and people from each Hodinosho:ni’ community.

Hayden Haynes is the President for 2024-2025. Keri Pierce is the Treasurer. All members are welcome to attend each month.

Kelvin George will fill the role as our traditional dancer. He will perform multiple shows each day for the duration of the fair. There will be various fundraising opportunities to aid Kelvin with his travel and stay.

The craft vendors in the Ohi:yo’ booth will be Valerie Nosie, Tami Watt, Gina Larvie and Hayden Haynes. Members can send small to medium handmade craft items to sell in the Ohi:yo’ booth. Local members and artists Sierra Parker, Joe Dowdy and Penelope Minner will send small items for sale.

The Ohi:yo’ group will have a booth at the Seneca Veterans Powwow to sell 50/50 raffle tickets and host a ribbon skirt raffle starting July 11th. You can purchase tickets from Gina Larvie, Tami Watt or Keri Pierce. A joker board raffle will start July 11th as well. There will be 2 winners of $250 each. Darlene Miller will transport art and agriculture submissions to the New York State Fair for judging on Wednesday, August 20th. If you have items for judging, please bring to the Seneca – Iroquois National Museum parking lot by 5pm on August 20th.
