Last Month filmmaker Caleb Abrams premiered his latest documentary, “The Burning of My Coldspring Home,” at the Ray Evans Seneca Theatre.
The film is based on a short story by the late Stephen “Steve” Gordon, in which he recalls his family making the difficult choice to burn their homestead rather than see it destroyed by the Army Corps of Engineers for the Kinzua Dam construction.
The film, 14 years in the making, captures Steve’s raw and honest account of displacement and loss. More than history, it’s a teaching tool for future generations, carrying forward the voices of those who lived through the trauma.
Nya:wëh to all the friends, family, and community for coming out to experience the film, to the Ray Evans Seneca Theatre, the Remember the Removal Committee, and the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center for sponsoring the screening. Keep a look out for more showings!
