Memorial Day is on Monday, May 25, 2026; a day for remembering and honoring military service members who died in service of their country. Memorial Day is held at the SAAB lawn at 1100 sharp, then proceeding inside for lunch and more of the program and swearing in of 2026-2027 Legion Officers and Executive Committee. The Sunrise Service is scheduled for May 24, 2026; at 0800. We will depart the Legion at 0800 to the following cemeteries: Good Shepard Church, Pinewoods Cemetery, Newtown on Longhouse Road, Indian Hill Cemetery and finishing at Seneca Nation Cemetery.

On May 18, 2026, thru May 20, 2025, from 0900am to 3pm, the Legionnaires and any Volunteers will be placing American Flags on the gravesites in our local cemeteries and on personal family plots from Civil War era to present. For those graves that are on personal property, please try to clear the area if possible. American Flags will be placed no later than 10 days prior to Memorial Day and come off the headstones 10 day after Memorial Day. At the entrances of the cemeteries, we will leave extra flags for families to take and place on the grave if there is not one already. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration, flags placed at gravesites usually one foot, centered and in front of the headstone or grave marker.
We are continuously updating our Native Veteran Grave Registry with full legal name, and correct gravesite location via community list of cemeteries or house number to easily locate their gravesite. This will allow us to honor them with an American Flag on Memorial Day.
Please stop by the American Legion or call if there are any deceased Veterans in your family that we are not aware of and the location of their gravesite. Please call 716-532-1587 or 559-772-7158 and leave a detailed message on the voicemail including Veteran’s Full Name/location/address and your name and callback phone number, text us with call back number or email Annette Repicci at americanlegioniroquoispost1587@gmail.com. Your help is greatly appreciated, Nya:wëh!
