Seneca Nation Councillor Odie Porter along with representatives of the Seneca Nation recently joined JPMorgan Chase and the WNY Making History Network founded by Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes, NYS Assemblywoman as a featured speaker at “Her Independence, Her Financial Power”—an event held in support of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum. Pictured below presenting are Breauna Crumpler, Vice President, Banker, J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Karri Nussle, Associate Director for Advancement and External Affairs, Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.

Councillor Porter spoke about the cultural significance of women’s roles within Seneca society, highlighting how clan lineage, leadership, and financial life have always centered around women. She shared that the balance between men and women has long been the foundation of Haudenosaunee society.
The Seneca Nation is proud to see these perspectives shared on a broader stage, contributing to a fuller and more accurate telling of women’s history in the United States of America.
