[Reposted from Silver Creek Central School District | June 17, 2026]

Miss. Tahamont’s Seneca language students took their end-of-year trip to the original homelands of the Seneca. They met their guide, Ansley Jemison, at the West River, where they kayaked out to Canandaigua Lake. Students learned to work together to paddle, and some enjoyed taking a dip in the lake. They learned that an ancestral site of the Seneca was located at South Hill during the late 1700s. Then they visited Clark’s Gully, which is recognized as a site of cultural significance. They ended the day at Ganondagan, where they learned about the area’s history and visited the reconstructed longhouse. This trip was made possible through the OBEWL language grant.
