Pins That Say “You Matter”

Reposted from Lake Shore High School | September 28, 2026

Throughout September, students in Seneca 3, 4, and 5 at Lake Shore High School learned the art of beading in Jacky Snyder’s Seneca Language classes. They used it to make Orange Shirt Day pins. Each pin will be given to a teacher, staff member, or someone special who helped a student feel seen, valued, and safe, and most of all, that they mattered.

The project grew out of class conversations about the Every Child Matters movement. It is a time to remember the children who came home from boarding schools, to honor those who did not, and to carry their stories forward with love, respect, and remembrance. Sometimes a teacher’s greatest lesson isn’t found in a textbook. It’s in making a place where students feel comfortable being exactly who they are.

May we continue to remember.
May we continue to listen.
May we continue to create spaces where every child knows: YOU MATTER.
