EMS Aids In Emergency Home Delivery

Paramedic Gary Knisely Jr. and EMT-B Christopher Manning assisted and helped coach a grandmother deliver a healthy baby boy on the Seneca Nation, Cattaraugus Territory.

Early morning on 9/19/22, at 0534 Seneca EMS was dispatched on territory for a woman in labor with contractions 90 seconds apart. When Seneca EMS arrived, the baby was on his way.

While all paramedics and EMTs are trained to help deliver a baby, should the occasion arise, it’s a once-in-a-career kind of call for most first responders. Paramedic Knisely has been in EMS for 27 years and this was his first delivery. EMT-B Manning has been in EMS for 14 years and this was his first delivery as well.

The call proved a rewarding and valuable life changing experience. On behalf of Seneca EMS we would like to congratulate the family and welcome D’Marcus Alexander Tallchief Jr. into the world!

Ja:goh Gary and Chris!
