Artist Spotlight on Olivia Maybee

October 20, 2022 | Repost from UB Arts Collaboratory Facebook

Olivia Maybee is a multi media artist born in Buffalo & raised on the Cattaraugus Reservation. She specializes in film photography, directing, and contemporary art techniques. Outside of her art practice, she is a model and role model to Seneca youth and has involvement within tribal, state, and federal politics. She is using art to create change within New York and beyond.

What’s your next project (big, small or in-between)?

The next project I am currently working on is my November show at Fitz Books & Waffles called “Ögwéöwéshö’öh: – The Original People”. MY show will contain photography, installation, and other multimedia works.

What’s your dream project?

My dream project is to work with LA fashion brand Born X Raised.

What are you most looking forward to in the year to come?

One major goal that I am currently working on is a large scale experimental film with another local young artist!

What makes Buffalo a great city for artists?

Buffalo is great for artists because of how large the art community is, and it’s often times welcoming. Being between NYC & Toronto gives Buffalo artist an advantage to experiencing what is happening on the east coast and bringing it back to their home turf. It creates a win-win situation where these experiences can be shared with one another, with the end goal of art evolving and creating changes.

Where do you find inspiration in Buffalo?

I find inspiration in Buffalo pretty much everywhere I go, from connecting with the original settlement of the Seneca’s, to the skate parks, galleries, and people. There is so much to learn from as long as you continue to be a student to life and keep your mind open.

Keep up with Olivia as she continues to use her art to create change www.oliviamaybee.com | @bambi_om
