Linemen Institute of the North East – Spring Class of 2023
January 10, 2023
Talon Welch, 23, from Salamanca, NY, resides on the reservation of the Seneca Nation of Indians – Allegany Territory. Talon comes to L.I.N.E. after previously attending the Line School in California, yet did not take his schooling to seriously, he was “young and dumb” as he put it (We have all been young and dumb many times before Talon!). He heard about L.I.N.E. and knew it was different and would be more one on one focus for him. He is here and realizes how much of a brotherhood this class has created already. No one puts one another down, instead they are supporting one another through these hard early weeks. He knows that being a lineman, there is a lot of work out there and a great financial benefit. Before getting into a Union, he does want to “Chase the Storms”.
Talon lost his sister who he looked up to. Talon’s sister was a part of the Bridge Painters Union and Talon wanted to follow in her footsteps and get into a career that was hard work and where he could potentially be a part of a union. Kudos to you Talon, I am sure your sister is proud!
Talon likes lacrosse, his friends call him Welch, and he wants everyone to know, “if something is tough in the beginning, don’t give up”. He’s happy he found his way back into this career choice and couldn’t be happier than being here at L.I.N.E.
Also, congratulations to the Spring 2023 students on completing the Certified Climber Test!
