From civic duties to supporting friends and neighbors in need, and from service in law enforcement and the military to being role models for the youth, dozens of residents from Cattaraugus and Allegany counties were honored Friday for heroism in their communities.
Hosted by Congressman Nicholas Langworthy in the Olean High School Auditorium, the America 250 Community Heroes Award Ceremony saw friends, family and colleagues of 52 gather to celebrate those who make their local communities and the United States great.
Langworthy said his team wanted to do something special in the 23rd Congressional District to celebrate the United States Semiquincentennial and decided the best way is to celebrate the people who would never seek recognition on their own.
When thinking about the country’s history, Langworthy said people often think of the military battles fought, the presidents who led, the documents written and the inventions that changed the world, but Friday’s ceremony is about the ordinary American people who do extraordinary things.
